Ways we can Observe Women’s Healthcare Month

  • Join the gym

The gym is extremely beneficial and important for everyone. However, for women, due to a combination of hormone and health risks, exercise can benefit women in even more ways. It can help counteract mood swings from menstrual cycles. It can prevent bone loss and osteoporosis which women are far more likely to develop than men (Health Benefits of Exercise for Women). It also improves the overall mood for everyone. However, Women are twice as likely as men to experience depression (Women’s Health Care Month). Exercise helps to counteract this phenomenon.

  • Get vaccines

Being vaccinated does not only help you with your own health but improves the health of your community!

  • Eat healthy

Eating healthy is a good preventative for several chronic diseases and illnesses. Women should pay special attention to their calcium, iron and folate intake. Women 25 to 50 years of age should ingest 1,000 mg of calcium each day, while women past or approaching menopause should have 1,200 mg of calcium every day if taking estrogen replacement therapy; otherwise, 1,500 mg per day is recommended. Women older than 65 years of age should have 1,500 mg per day. Paying attention to iron intake is especially important because most women lose an average of 15 to 20 milligrams of iron each month during menstruation. Without enough iron, iron deficiency anemia can develop and cause symptoms that include fatigue and headaches. (Facts About Women’s Wellness-Nutrition). Eating a good nutritious diet can also help to prevent some cancers, including breast cancer. Women are more likely to get breast cancer than men, each year in the United States, about 264,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women (Basic information about Breast Cancer).
